I'm not really sure where to begin...I just know that I have the opportunity to work with one of the most amazing couples on the face of the planet.
Maybe it's their personality or their genuineness....or possibly the kindness and laughter you hear when they talk amongst each-other. But for me, it's the way it should be....beautiful.

Another BIG birthday

Wow. Another birthday....Today I was looking for photos from a wedding I shot in St. Thomas. I asked Dorian, "When did we shoot that wedding on the island!?" He looked at me as I plugged in my 2010 hard drive to retrive the photos and said, "2008!"
AND where has the time gone???????????
It's kind of loveable the job we have but the flip side to being present at all these happy, over the top, beautiful, fun-loving weddings...is that time just goes by ever so seemlessly.

So this weekend, I celebrate! I stop. Pause, realizing it's 2012, my 31st birthday...which really causes for no such celebration at all...didn't I just have a birthday?
To be honest, I'm just sitting here thinking, so this is what it's like; life with age. Having everything you want in life and celebrating a new year....as I age, I hope it's graceful and fun, I hope I always remember all the couples weddings I shot and the hundreds-of-thousands of wedding pictures I took, because someday that will be my calendar...my memory, my heart.
Cheers to another year. I'm shooting an event on Saturday and then heading to Key West where I am going to find a nice tiki hut and a blue ocean where I can float, and the sun can age me and eat healthy food and drink fine wine, becuase with age, I see, life is just getting better.

Goodbye 2011 + Hello to a New Year

In a way it is exciting to write this last blog for 2011...at the start of my new year I will be spending time working, doing what I love. I'll be filming a wedding with Dorian Iribarren in Boston. One of the highlights, from our venue at the Four Seasons Hotel will be the fireworks at midnight overlooking Boston Commons.

The past extraordinary year offered me the opportunity to work with wonderful couples in wonderful places worldwide. Much to my delight, The Knot Magazine bestowed upon me the award as one of the Top Photographer for 2012 in South Florida.

The law of Attraction...Jenny + Peter

I travel almost every minute of my life...it inspires me. And as I explore and learn more and more I realize that the best experiences are from spontaneity. As an artist I have a vision, always having expectations of photographing my couples in a different way that is unique to their relationship.
As I prepped for this shoot with Jenny + Peter I thought, let's do something different! Jenny is a stylist and knew exactly what she wanted and I loved her ideas. She is classic and desired a vintage feel for her engagement pictures. Jenny and I are spontaneous and know that it's not about where you are but the feeling you get when you are there.
We met to do the photo shoot and as we drove we talked about where we were going to go! I told them that the other day I was describing the perfect spot to Dorian....{I'd love to find an open field with one tree, a place that I can take pictures and the couple pops out of the background, whimsical and colorful. As I day dreamed about this place the reality was, I had no plans, a few expectations but had no place to go....As Dorian laughed he said, "I love your ideas but where are you going to find a place like that around here?" So as we drove a few short miles I looked out the window at a Polo Club that was on the right side of the car...and said, "That's it!" This is the place! It was perfect.
Here we spent some time capturing some amazing images of this great couple. There is nothing better than photographing couples who can be themselves, fun loving, not have plans, trust each other and just enjoy each moment as if it was a present.

And look here, if you envision a place in your mind, it exists, you just have to go out there and believe in it....it's called the Law of Attraction or on this day, just a tree in the middle of know where :) Carpe Diem.

Cabo San Lucas Wedding... Dani + Jason

What a small world we live in....about four and a half years ago I moved to Florida to expand my destination wedding business from St. Louis to as far south as I could get with dreams of shooting more weddings in the Caribbean and pretty much any island I could get to!
One day I stepped outside my door here on the beach to take a photo of the sunset. As I framed up my shot a couple came past asking me, "Where the location on the beach is that people typically got married?" As I started talking to them, we discovered that we both were from the mid-west and had quite a bit in common. I felt an instant connection to them as for they were so laid back and just darling. I remember thinking, they are going to make the cutest couple!

About a year or so later I celebrated my 30th Birthday with a few of my closest friends here in Florida. My best friend Mike told me that he has a friend "Sly" coming into town and could he come along to dinner? It just so happened that Mike's friend was Jason, the guy from the beach with his fiance. It just so happens that Sly a.k.a Jason use to live in Chicago with my two best friends that now live here. About another year later I got a call from Dani and we discussed me going to Mexico to photograph their wedding!
It has always been a dream of mine to go to Cabo! I pictured it like a dream. I must say that I already loved Dani & Jason, I could sense their genuineness from the minute I met them on the beach two and a half years ago. I knew that if we shared the same mutual friends this was going to be one killer wedding!
Needless to say, it was! And then some! It pretty much the kind of wedding that everyone should have....a week in the sun, by the pool, laughing and enjoying your closest family, friends, not a care in the world! The Dreams Resort and Spa really was one of the nicest. It felt like a boutique style hotel with all of the amenities you could ask for! It was the perfect location to get married. It was one of the best experiences of my career thus far and will forever hold a great place in my heart.

I have discovered that one of the best things to do while visiting paradise is to take a catamaran cruise. Cabo just is one of those places that....well, there is no other location on the face of the planet like it! It's pretty killer. So when the opportunity presented itself for the bride & groom and a few friends on a sunset cruise over to the famous rocks on the Baja peninsula I knew we had to do it. We cruised with our red wine and had not a care in the world...it was the perfect end to an amazing day and the ideal night cap after Dani & Jason's Cabo wedding.
With love and the strong desire to buy a boat and move to an island ;)

Cabo at sunrise!

There are only a few things in life I will wake up early in the morning for! Most mornings while in Cabo San Lucas photographing a wedding, I found myself up at sunrise as the glare from the oceans golden sun beat on my window...so electric. We stayed at the Dreams Resort which was one of the most beautiful resorts I have visited! Needless to say, the view from my room looked over the desert sand onto the beach. Every morning I saw horses trotting the beach at sunrise...it may sound cliche but the fact is it really was one of the most magical things I have ever seen.
Cabo really is one of those places that will stay in my heart forever...I day dreamed while I was there...found a great tiki to get inspired as the waves crashed the yellow desert sand...I can't help but love this paradise.
Here are a few photos from our sunset ride with my camera strapped to my back thinking, whatever life gives me after this day is simply icing on the cake, la dolce vita.

Aruba Wedding...Lisa + Mike

It's hard to find words to write about on this one...it's one of those couples that you just have to know! Lisa is one of the most extraordinary women I know...she's savvy, has a passion for design and creates the most amazing pieces of art. When it came to her wedding, no detail was left unthought of. She created a beautiful wedding. Her style belongs in a magazine and her smile should be framed and admired everyday! Lisa is one of those people you love and feel so lucky to be a part of her life. She and Mike met in Boston and decided to say their I Do's in Aruba. We all flew to be there for them and were welcomed open heartedly into their family circle of friends.
As the sunset, the wedding took place by the beach. The tiki huts were a prefect backdrop and the yellow light was on fire. Everyone little detail and word complimented the next....they resembled the delight, vibrant color and elegance just like what Lisa possesses. From the start of the ceremony to the end of the reception the guests laughed, cried and sweated their hearts out on the dance floor under the full moon.

Lisa + Mike...Aruba

Once you see a new place for the first time, it's never the same! I flew into Aruba for Lisa & Mike's wedding. As I few over the tiny island I felt like I was at the end of the earth...I actually knew I was at the end of the Caribbean sea...on one of the three A, B, C islands.
Aruba is one of the most beautiful places I have ever benn. Like a dessert the landscape offered itself to so many different types of pictures. The blue water and cream colored sand created such an ideal canvas for me to capture Lisa & Mike. Here are a few photos from our session. We met the day before the wedding to explore the beautiful terrain outside of the hotel.
As we explored we learned more about each other and documented some beautiful images along the way!

Happy Anniversary

Today exemplifies the reward I receive through my life's work of photography. I met Pam & Dan almost five years ago. They hired me to shoot their wedding and I have stayed in touch and became pretty good friends with them over the years. I admire this darling couple...They were living in New York and have since moved back to St. Louis where their families live. Today, they celebrate their three year anniversary. Pam is also EXPECTING their first little boy in a few weeks!
As I processed theses photos I could not help but realize how rewarding my job really is fulfilling comes to mind as I smile :) I see couples go through the engagement process, get married, party on the happiest night of their life! Buy their first home together and get their first dog! And finally, watch them start a family. I love photographing weddings however, I find much reward in being a couples photographer along the milestones in life!
Happy Anniversary to one of the most special couples I have met. I can't wait to meet Nathan and watch you become the best parents. You deserve all the best. Cheers!

So it's 2011 and I'm tired of DVD's - here is a new devise that offers accessibility to your wedding images via USB. Seen below is an 8GB USB drive that comes custom made in a "ring" box. It is 3" by 3" and holds all the wedding day images that have been processed and touched up. This devise can be plugged directly into your PlayStation, Wi and your finance's new flat screen tv. It is a great way to watch your images on the big screen or easily copy them to your laptop, IPad and whatever other fancy gadgets you own :)

Before I was a photographer...I was a graphic designer. I had no idea what I wanted to be when I "grew up"! It was my sophomore year in college and the only certain thing I felt was that I just loved golf. I played everyday and got to travel. It was my everything...
One spring day it was time to declare a major in school...so I thought; art = my passion & computers = money. So I signed up for graphic design. Being a professional photographer was not yet on my mind but I found a niche for design.
I now realized that the best kind of design is what you create for yourself.
Today, I am glad all the my puzzle pieces fell together, design, art, photography and now weddings. I love keeping a part of my graphic design present in my life through creating wedding albums for my clients. It's the best book a couple will ever own. If created the right way your wedding pictures go from photos to art...the design, layout and seamlessness of the new albums on the market today make the concept of tradition be a thing of the past. My books tell a story and of course the couples look amazing.

Thursday in Aruba

It's no wonder they call this place, "the island of happiness."

It's Thursday and I am in one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. Aruba feels like it sits on top of the equator with its southwest feel and mild temperatures making me see why vacation seekers from all over South America and the US flock here...it's small dot on the map, located near Venezuela and a part of the ABC Islands and it's rare landscape and vast exploration of caves, beaches and culture make it my new favorite.

I must say, yesterday was one of the best days of my life!...I found a tiki hut on the beach here at the hotel where the wedding is this evening at sunset, the Marriott Aruba Resort & Stellaris Casino Of course I fond a pina colada and a good magazine to compliment my desire to truly unwind and prep for todays shoot. I began to read on the beach after relaxing from our pre-wedding shoot at the Alto Vista, a little church which was actually the very first built in Aruba. It was pretty spectacular! It was my first time photographing Lisa and Mike. As we walked down toward the ocean, I couldn't help but admire the nature, the beauty of the desert and the two of them for getting married in such an amazing destination.

I wanted to post a few pictures today because while I was reading my magazine, under my tiki I was re-inspired. As I read a story by Emilio Estefan..he expressed his passion, inspiration and drive to follow his dreams, he stated, "The most important part is doing things with love. If you like what you are doing and make an effort, everything goes well. Success is defined by what makes you happy."

There just is nothing better than meeting amazing couples like Lisa and Mike from Boston, getting to know their amazing friends and genuine family. I love traveling to new places and keeping my inspiration fresh...although sometimes I have to search for it, when it comes, it is so rewarding. I can't wait to document these two on one of the happiest days of their lives. I will witness the dedication, excitement and fun they and their 80 guests are going to have tonight at the wedding on this tropical island.

A Love Story in Naples

It's picturesque white sandy beaches put you in the mood to do whatever your heart desires. This past weekend, Dorian and I captured the weekend's events at the Ritz Carlton resort. I never thought in this decade I would find such a true love. Someone who was just as passionate about art as I was....until I met Dorian. These days, four years to the day, I have discovered that he is in fact even more passionate about the art of film, photography & experience that I may every truly be! He captures things in a way that not only inspires me but makes me want to be better. My photography and his film often compliment each other, but on this one, I feel it's hard to compete.

Today I rewind, like you would if you were watching a tired old wedding video that was entirely to long.... r e w i n d to three years & six months ago to when I found a new friendship with Lindsey & Justin. At the time, like love, I have no idea the actual impact a friendship would truly have on my personal, professional and love life. Today, I sit here in tears, in amazement, in awhhh with my heart filled with the best joy the world offers....the art of relationship.

As Mike so perfectly said in this film, "It doesn't matter in life where you go or what you do or what you have....what matters is who is by your side!"

Reading hand written vows, Lindsey & Justin expressed their passion for traveling the world together and how they have found new experiences not just in places, but in each other. I have never witnessed such a powerful moment that was filled with intense emotion, honesty and tears of love. In life you attract friends for different reasons. Sometimes it's their sense of adventure that you gage as exciting or their genuine disposition that makes you appreciate their thoughtfulness. As I grow up and grow into my ever changing career as a photographer, I find that the moments I love most in my life are the spontaneous ones! Like the night I met Lindsey & Justin here in Deerfield Beach just before they got engaged.

As I watched them plan their wedding over the next year I grew closer to them. So close that I feel like I am part of their family. I could spend all day writing about how much I love them! But let's get to the wedding story! The details alone could be award winning! I knew this day was going to be so special and as a friend I wanted to give them all I had. They flew my best friend and favorite photographer Allison Carenza in from Kansas City to shoot alongside me. After all, she was here the night we all met for the fist time. Allison and I confidently approached the wedding day with creative ideas. We started it off with a float down the lazy river pool side at the Pelican Grand Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale at 10 a.m. I find it hard to really describe the day, as Lindsey walked down the isle with her dad. It's just one of those moments in life that for me was so highly emotional it was like I am recalling a dream. I think this is where I will say, the pictures are worth a thousand words. On this day I truly was in another place when I was shooting. I let go and took some of my best pictures. I've been trying to write this blog post for a week (thinking about what to say...) And you know, it's never going to be perfect. I have so many words, stories and thoughts to share with the world about these two and their families. So just enjoy these pictures - take notice of the love, emotion and beauty created.

And I will say, for the first time I am truly speechless....I let my heart express itself through he photos and I hope my readers can see what I was loving to capture.

Ryan + Justine: PGA National Golf Course

There are a few people that come along in life that re-inspire me. These are people who bring joy, creativity, and kindness even before a friendship really gets started. From the moment I met Justine & Ryan I knew they were our perfect client. As dorian and I listened to them talk and share their stories of travel and adventures I felt such a strong desired to be a part of their wedding day. They are just one of those couples you love and immediately want to hear about all the moments that brought them to where they are today.
As they planned their wedding and prepared for the shoot we began to build a strong relationship. We found a lot in common with each other. Like us they love golf, trips to the Keys, eating sushi and concerts, just to name a few. Just when I thought Dorian was the most techie person I knew, we realized Ryan holds the crown. I must say Ryan and Justine have a great sense of adventure. They have been to some of the most beautiful places on the planet. Tahiti was their honeymoon escape! The photographs they brought back were out of this world but I most loved their tales...Like journal entries to their life.Their trip was pretty remarkable and to think, this is just the beginning of their journey.
I obviously think the world of this couple. I truly could not imagine them with anyone else. The are the definition of complimentary. Oh how they love each other unconditionally. I hope through these still images everyone can see their true beauty, sentiments and laughter. Fleeting moments took place in the perfect setting there on the terrace overlooking one of the prettiest golf course in America. PGA National Golf Course & Resort.
Yellow golden light painted them just as they said their vows creating such an amazing mood for the rest of the evening. The party could have never ended! We loved being such a special part of their wedding and having the opportunity to tell their story. A special thanks to all the wedding party and their parents, each of you were part of making this day remarkable. They are lucky to have wonderful people like you in their lives.

Love Story Film...Lindsey + Justin

The art of a love story as we know it is taking new shape. It's not just about the engagement or the wedding it's about the in between. That's the excitement and experience of every day life as we know it! This couple has a special place in our hearts as both clients and friends. I admire Lindsey & Justin for their worldly travels, adventures, their bike rides, paddle board adventures in Deerfield Beach and frequent trips to the Keys to get away.

I had the opportunity to assist in producing this film with Dorian. He and I shot this together over a few days here on the island of Deerfield Beach & Boca Raton. When we are not filming, we are usually right along with Lindsey, Justin & Mike riding our Townies to the Pier or Kahunas. Although we dedicate our life, weekends and youthful energy to wedding photography & film, we have found that what brings us most joy is the love story. A love story film to me is capturing couples as they are in their element while doing what they love. Here we have time to be silly, get our feet sandy, watch the sun come up and even get on a ride at the carnival to experience the thrill of the adventure! After all, isn't that what life's all about?!

This shoot re inspired me! Dorian and I most love working together because we can be 100% creative. This shoot enabled us to step outside our comfort zone and produce a film that was both fun, colorful and captured the art of relationships!

Pour l'amour de Paris! (For the Love of Paris!)

Even people with too many blessings to count can still have a fantasy list of things they'd like out of life. I am reading an article in a magazine reminiscing on my fantasy of going back to Paris. It's been a desire ever since my high school French class. I dreamed of traveling and speaking the beautiful language...oh the people, the French country side in the summer, the ART! As time passed, I attended college and received a degree in graphic deign but the day before graduation I realized photography was my passion. As I packed up and prepared for my grown up phase of life, my parents took me to Europe for my graduation present. By the time I hit the French Riviera after six weeks of seeing seven countries I was adonné des voyages! (addicted to traveling) As if the architecture wasn't beautiful, the beaches of Nice were just out of this world.
To date, I have traveled to thirteen countries...and counting. I still am discovering that I would love uproot my life and live on a sailboat, like the Dorian Iribarren did when he was just a baby with his family. I picked up that fantasy after reading a photo book he was given at his college graduation. An album of his life, his dad's hand written storied, notes and pictures from his summers living in the Bahamas, sailing across the Atlantic to the Azores. Journey's documented and races back to the Caribbean where they lived such a great life and live today.

Just after I moved to Florida to expend my business in 2007 I spent my 28th birthday here by the beach, my new home...if business was good! I was lucky, created a new venture but kind of alone. All my friends were back in St. Louis, Dorian was in New Orleans at Loyola and I kept thinking...Now what? What is next? What would my next personal feeling of success be? And I said out load, "I will feel like I have made it when I get flown to photograph in Paris!" Oh Paris, what a romantic city full of all that art I studied in college. And then, in November of 2010 at age 29, two months shy of my 30th, I said, "I'm going to Paris!" For new years we booked two tickets and a hotel in St. Germain by Notre Dame and that was it. I was going to celebrate a new year and my big birthday! We made no plans, just a small suitcase and warm fur jacket. I packed my journal I wrote in the fist time I was there in '03 and was excited for this new adventure, I was grown up. Once upon a time I was organized, a bit of a planner but having little time in my everyday life outside work, I have realized that the best things in life are not planned, or even though of, they just happen! Just like that.

I reach out to an old friend Vicki. She had moved from St. Louis to France and we made plans to reconnect. She was a graphic designer and had lots of new things happening in her life. Upon meeting she filled me in on her boyfriend Mika. "He's french!" she said....and lovely he was! She wanted to marry him, she described! They were headed back to the states to visit family just before new years. We decided to meet in Paris when they returned at their apartment. I was eager to see Vicki who I discovered is now a Parisians who exhales a romantic life!

It was December 28th, Dorian and I arrive in Paris from Miami for 8 days of no plans only to eat a lot, indulge, see Vicki & Mika and drink as much red wine as we desired. We loved Napa in Aug. so we figured we'd adore the bordeaux in France. We flew into an airport that resembled an architectures dream, Charles de Gaulle. As Dorian and I found our way to the train we debated on just grabbing a cab. There was a line of 200 french fellows in their winter wool in front of us waiting for the stairs to grab the tram to the train station. Armed guards with machine guns stood like profiling statues and we didn't understand a word of what anyone was saying - I loved it!!! In a city filled with 11 million people I was finally here, with no cell phone, no plans, I was away! We grabbed the train into the city and then the subway to St. Germain near Luxenberg gardens. Arriving at our stop we walked up 4 flight of stairs with the crowd of dashing Parisians. As we carried out light luggage we steeped up onto the street of Saint Michel with eyes wide open! We stood there as birds flew over our head, smelling the cafe aroma with loads of people piddling by as the horns honked along the Seine river and the view of Notre Dame at our backs.... I felt as if I was in my dreams. We literally spun around staring at the romanesque architecture on the face of the buildings and our senses were high. Part of us wanted to throw the map away and just wonder but we looked at each other, smiled and started translating french street signs in route to our hotel. Dorian smiled and said, I've been all over the world but have never seen anything like this!

After new years and miles of walking on foot throughout the city, we went to visit Vicki and Mika for the photo shoot. As we climbed 5 flights of stairs to their apartment where we were welcomed with cheese and wine! Of course! Like a heart opening to love, I heard Vicki's story of their trip back to the states over the holiday. Next I spotted the ring Mika propose with to her while they were back home!!! The same enthusiasm in Vicki's voice that I remembered from our past was exuding there at the dining room table. We finished the wine and headed out for pictures to capture their engagement. We took photos and laughed as I learned more about their life, love and relationship. They told me about how the take the train to go travel throughout Europe, they've been everywhere and their adventures will make you jealous. I found myself idolizing her stories, getting lost in the way they looked at each other even though my camera was staring at them! You know, you can tell a lot about a person from their laugh and how comfortable they get when they scoot closer together. As they sat on the stone wall that potentially was thousands of years old, I though to myself....I am taking pictures in Paris, I'm doing what I always wanted, my dream of "making it" has come true! I could have stayed there for months, watching people, learning how to order food, eating crepes, sitting on the steps of Montmartre. As we walked back we saw litter on the streets of the Veuve Clicquot champagne from the Eiffels New Years party we had attended.... I've never been so happy! People litter Veuve here!

As we finished up photos we shuffled into a coffee shop to warm up and escape the 25 degree temperature. We talked, Vicki made a reservation for the next night for us at her favorite dinner spot for fondue. As she spoke over the phone in french her words were like a song. She's so beautiful. I was in a dream so I felt, again, now in a coffee shop; a place that you have to literally move the table so you can fit into the booth. You sit on top of your neighbor cause there is little room, but it's cozy. You learn to get to know people and be close, I gave up owning my personal space and just felt free. As I talked to Mika he told me more about their life here, his job and his travels growing up in Europe. I began admiring him even more. He's one of those people you meet and feel instantly connected to, genuine and comfortable....perfect for Vicki. As much as I love to talk I could listen to these two all day long! Their journeys, experiences and taste for life is just never ending.

As I left them that evening we took the train back to St. Germain, little restaurants filled with Parisians kissing, drinking and what we call just living was glowing through the windows as we passed! All of Paris is expensive so at some point we have learned that its not about money - it's about taste, living your life outside of work and with your family is what really matters. Everything else is temporary. Here, they work so you can go out to eat, entertain and travel, living life with intent. I watched people live happily as I took photos around the city. I adored the natives who were sitting on a park bench laughing....as a musician gains the love of the entire crowd in front of Sacre Coeur. I now realize, it's not about waiting for my opportunity, it's about creation it. I have a million blessings to count but I still have a fantasy list of things I want out of life. In writing the long, long, long blog I realized this; it was my dream to travel since I was little, as I grew older, I saw the world in a beautiful way, I was hungry for it. As I dedicated my life to wedding photography I was flown to beautiful islands, places of celebration and always wanted to work in Paris.... As I booked my flight to Paris this time, instead of planning a vacation, I lived the journey. Through that I reconnected with Vicki and met Mika, they got engaged and I took pictures in the city I have always wanted to seize. In retrospect, if I waited for someone to "hire" and fly me there for a wedding in Paris, I could still be waiting here for that client. But, now I am 30 and in celebrating my birthday, a new year and a fabulous relationship I have in my life I fed my passion for traveling and look what happened - I "made" it. If you just take the steps your feel are solid, the path becomes paved.

A special thanks to Vick and Mika, you deserve the best in life, love and I am so happy you are living your dreams. You live in one of the best cities in the world. I admire you two who don't take life's luxuries like elevators for granite and although you climb stairs to your 4th floor apt you get to see the eiffel tower everyday you walk outside your front door. Laissez les bons temps rouler. Cheers to love! Je vous aime deux.

The art of a wedding day is not just in emotion, imagery, or experience, it's about the feelings...the tears in a mothers eyes as their oldest daughter gets ready for the biggest day of her life, the note the bride reads from a gift her groom thoughfully presented to her just before the wedding. These once in a lifetime feelings happen as the bride puts on her dress over powered by love, excitment, and a million other emotions I can't yet relate to are which are now blushing through her eyes as the dress slipped and her shoes are slipped onto her feet.
There is nothing more amazing then a fancy wedding with genunie people who not only fill each table with bottles of Veuve Clicquot champagne but also with smiles. The laughter takes center stage as the band sends out a contageious vibe of music...if you wer'en drinking the champaign, you are now! The essance of creating a magical day is in the decor, the architecture of the location you choose to say "I do", the colors on your invitation, the fonts on menue cards, the laughter of the guests being merry while your best friend gives one of their best speaches of their life; as you look over to see the moms smile and tears on her face simultaneously. I must say that this wedding was above and beyone my wildest dreams! I loved every single detail, BIG & small! I love the lasting sip after the taste of Cristal champagne and the smell of Sara's dads Cuban cigars by the fire pit. Looking across the room at the dinner tables filled with family and friends, I think, wow this is the happiest day of this families life! Sara's dad said it best in his speech at the end of the night, "Sara, thank you for allowing me the privilage to walk to you down the isle as I present you to such a great man. This is the happiest day of my life! Cheers. I love you both." As the band played Something by the Beatles, the night could have gone on for days and the party in this family who has so much to celebrate will never end.
Cheers to a wonderful, genuine and classy family that will forever hold a special place in my heart and lifes work.

Meredith + Evan...Sundy House

As I begin to ponder what to write about Meredith & Evan here on my blog I reminisce their intimate wedding at the Sundy House in Delray Beach. It's a classy Key West style cottage inn and restaurant. Just as you hear the sounds of the leaves dancing in the wind you see what seems like an endless pathways meandering through a green jungle. It was the charm of this tucked away place I was loving! A secret venue planted in a hip, classy yet bohemian town. As I arrived, I was feeling both adventurous in this jungle & a bit romantic! As I fantasized, the light splashes through the trees and I begin to envision how my pictures are going to turn out...it was then time stood still. (Ohhh how I love when that happens!)
So here they are! A few of many I took while documenting Meredith getting ready, their jewish ceremony and lunch reception. I appreciated Meredith and Evans trust in giving me creative freedom to take pictures prior to the ceremony! I loved they way they held onto each other and knew that they were not only going to soon be married but would walk down the isle and begin a new adventure. I too was able to witness the people who were closest to them in their lives while seated in this little place like heaven as they said their vows under the most rustic and fragrant chuppah! Enjoy these images and cheers to a great couple that I admire. I'm looking forward to sharing Dorians video when it is ready in a few weeks. I know it will compliment the photographs and bring more life to all the fleeting moments that danced like the leaves on the trees!

Jocelyn + Eli...Trust is Golden

The power of trust is something we talk about but rarely really let go of. There are two things about photography and life that I feel strongly about; trust & golden light. I feel, to get amazing images from a photographer you need to trust them. In turn you're likely to evoke their creative freedom and your photog will shoot for themselves (as if they were getting married). The golden hour is the prettiest light, just before sunset. Most weddings take the pictures before the ceremony due to time and the importance of capturing the key shots of the bride & groom before the party starts. Jocelyn and Eli set a special scene for their wedding day. As they saw each other for the first time as the sun was about to set on the golf course of Ballen Isles in Palm Beach, I found myself shooting my sixth wedding since my workshop with Ben and Erin and had two new lenses in hand: the L 35mm F/1.4 and the L 50 mm f/1.2. As I watched Jocelyn & Eli dance on the golf course I fell in love with every angle I could find, the light and my new lenses. At one point I had my finger on the camera trigger, just going for that one shot I envisioned of them on the hill....My eyes were lusting over the moments of light and my head was saying, "shoot for yourself!" It was at that point that I shot a few silhouettes and Dorian shot the sun bursting through their kiss....I was in heaven. After all, I was on a golf course and at a wedding with this remarkable couple so in love and entrusting!
I feel most lucky when I am working with amazing couples who totally trust me because they let go...they let me guide them in a sensitive, sweet way which makes them forget or just not be bothered by things like, the bottom of their dress getting a little dusty or their feet hurting or tired, they just live in the moment.. they are alive! As Allison always tells me,"Mags, just let it happen!" Jocelyn trusted that I am going to lead them to a romantic spot that all they have to do is love each other. It's moments like these that make my job not seem like work, my heart feel fulfilled and my investments in equipment the best money I've ever spent.

What makes a great picture? As I stare at a picture in black and white - I ponder this question. Most photogs will tell you, lighting, emotion, color and composition.
So as I stare at this black and white image; there is no color, the light is fine and compositionally, if I had to retake it I would change my angle at bit. But to be honest, it doesn't matter, cause the moment is gone and I am left looking at this black & white. I come to terms with the fact that in my opinion, a great photo is one that tells a story, one that evokes feeling, emotion....in this instance, in this picture, I'm in love the feeling it gives me. At this weeding, there were a lot of great color images but for some reason, I come back to this one, a black & white and this is why......When I see this image, I see the bride holding the bussle of her dress with her hand while she brushes her curls back from neck as the wind blows her wail. I see the tone of her arms and the highlights of her striking features. She's beautiful. I remember, as she takes a deep breath she sweetly smiles, she's calm. While her groom is staring at the camera conscious of me but there is a shallow depth of field so he's not the main focus, it's about the bride. Selfishly, I love this photo because when I look at it again and again it takes me right back to the moment, the feeling, the lighting of the golden hour of that afternoon. Mostly, it takes me back to their love, so playful like a language of their own as they celebrated each other. It's passion. I remember the feeling and the thoughtfulness they showed each other, oh how rare.
So in the end, if it's up to me, a good picture is one you love looking at, one that brings you back to the moment, the taste, the sensations you had while you were lost in the moment not even knowing it happened....but now you stare at the photo realizing, that was it, that was the moment, fleeting.

Dan + Lorena....Rendezvous around the world

If you can travel the world together and remain best friends, you've got a keeper! I most admire Dan & Lorena for their hunger for worldly travel! They are true jet setters with a multitude of amazing experiences! They first met at a company Christmas party in Atlanta. Although they were traveling around the world for work at that time and lived in two different cities they somehow organized their first date. Dan flew Lorena to San Francisco where they had their first trist and getting aquatinted. He wined and dined her in Napa where they discovered they had more and more in common. Before they met they were actually neighbors in Chicago, frequenting the same places but never actually meeting.
Next, Dan visited her in Miami where she and her family were living. I think it was at that point Dan called his boss and asked if he could leave the west coast and land a job in the warm sunny climate of South Florida. His wish was granted - sounds to me like destiny if you ask me! but it worked out perfectly. Next, they were flying in a helicopter on Christmas to Key West where Dan proposed. As Dan tells their story I see the passion he feels for Lorena. He says, "I knew I was going to marry her!" (laughing) He was both persistent and adventurous both will tell you. They're the perfect two to compliment one another. Their family life could not be more different, Dan from St. Louis and was raised Jewish and later attended Purdue. Lorena was born in Columbia, speaks spanish and raised Catholic. Passionate about traveling, Lorena probably has more stamps in her passport than anyone I know. She even taught Dan spanish...They made a rule after they started dating; every Sunday they only spoke Spanish to each other.

I love so many things about Lorena. She's the most considerate person I have ever met. She makes you feel like you are the most special person in the world. When she tells stories about her journeys no matter how fantastic - she always asks about you first. She gets to know me in such a way that you instantly connect with her. The best thing about her stories is the excitement evoked.
While toasting with a glass of red wine in their living room, I showed them their wedding pictures and thought to myself...In front of me are two people who have traveled the world, conquered the successes of work, languages and family. Now they sit in their new house in Hollywood, Florida, on their new sofa with amazing stories about how they dated, rendezvoused in different cities and grew to see that they are the same person in most ways but have enough differences to keep them unique. It was then I realize, this is just the beginning....Most people only dream about having the adventures and visiting the places they have already seen. Most people only wish they could find a love that is not only your best friend but your travel buddy, you translator, you other half and now your spouse.

Salute to my great friends! Designing the most sentimental ceremony by incorporating both religions with their closest friends. Oh and one fun party by the beach, under a full moon.
To think; it's really just the beginning.

In a world with so many choices today this wedding day reminded me of how simple our life, love and needs really are. Simple, classic, elegant...I think if we choose to make this our ideal we will more and more find ourselves automatically focusing on the realness of the smiles, laugher and the pure joy we all were created with.
On this fall day of Lisa + Damian's wedding I was peeking into this love story with the most ideal setting. It was my first time meeting Damian but I had already grown to love Lisa. She has this amazing sincerity in her heart....she exudes kindness in such a real kind of way.
As we took pictures of the ceremony and then headed to the park the colors of fall were radiant. The golden light made me want to capture the beauty that was in front of me through my camera. How inspired I felt! This was really a special setting with exceptional subjects. As the groomsmen carried the beer a great laughter echoed through the woods. We walked on the path to the park which lead us to this beautiful sanctuary of rocks, wildflowers and trees decorated with colorful leaves! As I stopped to get a feel for the mood of the group, I admired the energy that I felt-contagious!! It was happiness!
On this day I was the lucky one - to be taking pictures of such an amazing group - right in front of me. I admirably stared, laughed and loved this couple as if they were my best friends. I cried like I was a guest and watched the night come to an end as everyone danced their shoes off at Olivia on The Hill.

Ten minutes each day, the light is sublime. Most days when I admire this beautiful sunset at the golden hour I am alone driving in my car or walking on the beach, not with a camera in hand. The best days for this light is Sunday, not because of how it looks on the 7th day of the week but because Sundays seems to be the days that we all really notice what is in front of us. The calmness of the weekend has finally set in and the sun is about to go down, starting a new week and the end of the past. On this particular Sunday I happen to be photographing a wedding for a few hours in Boca Raton. The couple entrusted me to take their photographs anywhere I desired. And I thought,...."If these were my pictures, where would I want them??" I imagined somewhere quite, peaceful, by the beach but in the prettiest of all. Those visions brought me to a golf course. Here we ended up on a course I rarely play which is about a mile from my house...(I never play because I'm always taking pictures) Whenever I do scramble around this course, I see this one spot and feel like I am somewhere else...
I love the slope of the hill which from the bottom looks like a place in Hawaii but from the top, it overlooks the beach where you see the waves first then the sand below. There is a pretty bench that seems so enticing to sit on, of course I have not had time to sit there but just when it becomes your after thought you turn around and see the sunset, a beam of light! It is one of the prettiest places I have been. It just gives me such a dignified feeling while I am there. Maybe I have that feeling cause I have spend most of my life on a golf course, practicing, competing and playing my heart out. It is really the only thing I can do in life where time stands still....so with little time before their ceremony, we stopped here where I saved the best for last, the sunset shot. I had a vision but in reality had no idea how this was going to turn out. I was totally in love with the way that the couple was loving each other, jumping, laughing, just being funny, full of passion and geniuses! They are not only beautiful people but had such an excited spirit! I figured I would tell them to have fun! "Pick her up!" I said, "Swing her around, kiss!" Then I saw this shot and yelled (which is so unlike me) "Just love on each other" As I laid face down on the grass and held down the shutter on my camera I couldn't stop shooting.
As the night went on I kept thinking about this shot...and today I was again updating my website and thought, I wonder if that turned out as I had envisioned? So here it is, symbolic to me because for the first time in a long time, I shot for myself, I got down of that Bermuda grass I use to walk on for 6 hours a day, everyday and just fell in love with the golden hour, the couples wild side and the passion I have for doing what I love while being in the only place that time stands still.

Liza + Todd...A Walk in the Park

There were numerous moments I found myself truly lost in the moment while watching Liza & Todd connect during this photo shoot. As we walked down the pathway at Oak Knoll Park in Clayton, she shared with me the story about how Todd proposed. It was here at this park in their neighborhood that he wanted to ask Liza to marry him. As they walked across the bridge I was in awh of the fall trees and the colors which ever so beautifully contrasted her red dress. I thought to myself, "So this was the beginning!" It was now the golden hour which is my favorite time of day! It makes photographs so vibrant and radiant. This couple has such an genuineness about them! In a way I am almost lost for words....The way they talked to each other and playfully interacted simply inspired me! While I was searching for another angle for the next picture, I found myself just watching them...more so as a person than a photographer. I thought, their cheekiness was so perfect! They are happy, so into the moment...playfully and in love.
I am now looking forward to their wedding next July in Naples, Florida at the Ritz Carlton. I know their wedding is going to be fabulous! They are planning some really divine weekend events for their family, friends and guest! I can't hardly wait!! Enjoy!

Lindsey + Justin..."Life is Good!"

As I exhale my feet touch the sand and I'm falling in love with the imagery of photography all over again. There is nothing like photographing dear friends who have creative ideas! Most often my work is inspired through relationships. The real kind! The kind that make me laugh out load while shooting two people being themselves, falling in love and just expressing who they are in front of the camera! Here are a few of my favorite photographs from Lindesy + Justin's engagment session in Deerfield Beach by our homes a few weeks ago. Their upcoming wedding is next April at the Pelican Grand Beach Resort in Ft. Lauderdale.
In March, we also had a little shoot in beautiful Key West. They were vacationing and I was shooting a wedding at the Westin Hotel and staying at my favorite place on the face of the planet, Sunset Key. As they road their bikes to the park the sun fell into the southern most point just as the full moon rose behind us. Later we enjoyed a few or maybe more than a few drinks on Duval Street...Followed by an amazing breakfast at the oh so hippie Blue Heaven Resturant and later we found our way to the Peter Lik Gallery! Being the true friends that they are, they assited my hunger and obsession for art where I purchased another piece, Dark Side of The Moon.I feel so lucky to be the one capturing this couple as for they really are like my family in Florida. They are a part of my heart and I love being around them! I feel these pictures collaborated many great elements of both nature and their fun loving personalities!

Captured My Heart, 6 Miles High!! Max + Sarah

Out of all my years photographing weddings, it struck me on a recent SouthWest Airlines flight that I have never actually heard a proposal in person!
It was just another Saturday for me; flying to another beautiful place to capture a wedding film. Dorian & I were leaving south Florida headed to beautiful Martha's Vineyard for a Labor Day weekend wedding. The only thing that stood between us and work on this last day of summer was a hurricane that was forecasted to hit directly over new England...
To our surprise the east coast dodged the hurricane and planes were back in flight! We boarded our first leg to Providence, RI where we would then catch a little puddle jumper to the Vineyard. As we hit 10,000 feet the lovely flight attendant announced, "If there is a Sarah... on board, please ring your flight attendant call button!" As Sarah rang her button, Max (her soon to be fiancé!!) came over the load speaker with cheer asking, "Sarah! Will you make me the happiest man alive and marry ME???!!!!" As the 757 flight full of 148 passengers applauded, Sarah said, "YES!"
Max truly looked like that happiest man I had ever seen in my life! I was in tears. So happy to have witnessed such a free spirited, fun loving proposal for my first time!
As the plane made a stop in Philadelphia I took some photographs of Sarah + Max along with the crew that had assisted Max in planing this entire proposal! What a great joy it was for me to experience this moment. I am use to seeing the wedding, the moments of the BIG day and its production from start to finish, but on this day, I saw the very first step! I must say it was so touching! Congrats to Sarah + Max! I wish you all the best...I could not be more happy for two strangers to have found true love!

Joe + Katie Bauer...Norwood Hills Country Club

Joe & Katie spent about a year of planning their garden inspired wedding and I must say when I walked into the reception at Norwood Hills Country Club my eyes were blown away! The aroma of flowers and design by Tina Barrera was simply sensational. The details and design was strait out of a magazine! Katie is the most sincere person, sweet and beautiful bride...she's simply a joy to know and work with. Last fall, I took their engagement pictures at the Univeristy of Missouri, Columbia. For them it was where they first met during college, to me it was where I started my career; graphic designer turned photographer at age 23. The pictures turned out beautiful with the fall colors and laughter they encompassed.... it was then I knew their wedding was going to be spectacular.
What I most loved about this wedding was it's simply style and elegant feel. Their ceremony was on the patio in the garden where you could smell the fresh basil and herbs. The afternoon sunlight was blaring through the trees, casting some really, dramatic light onto the smiles and tears as the ceremony started. Katie & Joe decided to do all their formal photographs before the wedding. Beside the putting green and garden we created a moment for them to see each other for the first time! The intense moment brought tears to my eyes, which is very rare! it was simply a powerful moment! After all the planning and love that they put into this day, the pressure was off and they next presented one another with their gifts. This enabled me and my second shooter, Katy Corea to capture some great moments filled with intense emotions. I love Corea's style as for she really captures the essance, the bride and the little things that make up a stunning wedding! She majored in photography which gives her both the technical edge and real artistic style that was flourishing during this big day!

Congrats to a wonderful couple that will always have a special place in my heart! I think the world of them and their familes who all came together to create a beautiful, stress free, fun loving wedding and one killer dance party!

Katie + Josh...Kansas City Style!

Just when I was feeling all grown up and ready to graduate college, I met this young, beautiful, free spirited, confident young women! I remember sitting at a basketball game on the bleachers as Katie ran in front of all the crowd full of fans with a Chi Omega flag cheering for our team! She had the most spirit of any sorority sister I have ever seen...just like my best friend and fellow photographer; Allison Carenza, who had just graduated. As I contemplated life's meaning and readiness to graduate in order to start my travels I met Katie, someone who even now will remind you, to live in the moment! She has this energy that is contagious! She was one of the most amazing people I grew to love as a senior in college - mature yet eager to experience the fun loving episodic adventures you have as a freshman. Katie has always had a great sense of style, so it comes as no surprise that her wedding was just that!
I feel privileged to have been her photographer. She's the ideal bride!! Her dress fit her like a glove, oh so intricate! The emotion of her day was both tears of happiness and feelings of gratefulness! That morning, as I walked into her parents home there was such a calmness as the girls had their hair and make up done. I got a chance to catch up with some new and old friends from college as well as captured the start of the BIG day!
As Katie put her dress on she had a moment where her dad when he saw her for the first time...I caught myself crying behind my camera. It was intense, more intense then I can write down on this blog. Any of you who know her family know what I am talking about and feeling while reminiscing. Katie looked stunning! Part of her charm is her funny, free spirited, say anything to make you laugh side - and her sentimental, serious side! I admire Katie and her family dearly! To me, this day symbolized this happy time in their lives, the one day parents look towards and the day we miss the ones who are not here in person... but always with us in spirit. Katie thoughtfully placed a yellow rose in her bouquet that was a membrance of her late brother. As I watched her dad write the last few checks, with his office overflowing with rolls of architecture plans and maps I noticed her brothers pictures around the house and felt just how much he was missed. To me most people take for granite things in life but not this family! They truly live life to the fullest and treat everyone in their heart as if they were the most important individual! My point - life is precious so let's celebrate together the gifts we have here and now. I told Katies dad someday I am going to bring my dad to Kansas City and take them out to lunch so he can prep my dad for the check writing and responsibility a father takes on for a wedding! :)

As Katie and her dad left the house to head to the church! Josh was eagerly awaiting the ceremony. The hot July sun kept us inside capturing some of that beautiful natural light shinning through the windows of the sanctuary! I had the privilege of shooting with my best friend, fellow sorority sister, favorite photographer, soulmate - whatever you want to call her; Allison Carenza. She was that girl, 6 years ago in college that Katie so obviously reminded me of at that basket ball game! Allison and I captured a church filled with 400 guests, groomsmen in baseball shoes and the simple beautiful that was created to make this wedding day unique. After they said "I DO!" the trolley headed to the Plaza for some photographs! The love and friendship that Katie + Josh have makes me so proud! They are best friends and compliment each other OHhhhH so well! As the sun set we arrived at the famous Union Station where we unloaded the trolly, BudLight and headed into on large reception space. The architecture and feeling of the room was simply stunning. Decorated in green ivy and tables draped in black linen complimented the little uniqueness like a gift tree, personalized wine bottles at the bar with their engagement pictures, dried corks that held the table cards, wine openers as name place cards and flower girls passing out cupcakes. As Katie and Josh danced they laughed and gave each person that feeling of gratitude. I watched to witness and learn that true love exists, that living in the moment is really the only way to live, not giving thanks to the past or the future but appreciating the now; the moment that is in front of you! Christina + Michael...Boca Raton

As the father of the bride walked into the room to see his daughter for the first time, tears flooded my eyes and it hit me!...what a powerful moment I witnessed.

In the house that Christina had grown up in, she was finally leaving. As her dad gave her a hug it was a moment that I will never forget... In my mind, it's the kind of moment every bride needs from her father...to me; it clearly symbolized that Mr. Nelson was finally giving her away to marry her best friend, his new son. As they climbed in the limo it was real, she was getting married! After all this planning it was finally here.

As tears turned into smiles Michael and Christina said, "I DO!" They took pictures and reminded everyone that this was the happiest day of their lives! And, it was...How often do you have two families meet, at one dinner table, on one dance floor, sharing bird juice... I guess weddings like this hold a special place in my heart because it should be the happiest day of your life - and for them it was! Of course there will come kids, first a puppy they rescued last week! Next, a 16 day road trip on the east coast...and much adventure with no reservations!

I guess what I am concluding to is this. There is always your first love, the day your dad gives you away, a first dance and the first time you meet your whole extended family...It's the firsts of the firsts! Its pretty divine. I am so lucky to know Tina and Michael, they will always hold a special place in my heart. There is a magical place locted in Miami called Vizcaya. For those who have not heard of it or visited museum and garden, it is one place that will simply take your breath away! It may be the most intimately romantic place next to Paris (in my opinion) It was a pleasure for me to capture a wonderful couple at this idyllic location. I adore Carlyn and her family! Kelly + Greg Hardy... Painting love

Imagining that I was painting a picture to tell a story of a bride & groom....My hands lay over the canvas as my hand magically paints with grace. Creating lines, textures and colors of expression that make up an image of two people so perfectly...so in love!
If I know a couple so divine, it is this one! Their desire for creativeness and passion for the arts enabled me to capture the art of their relationship!

Calmness came over me from the moment I walked into Kelly's moms house (a thing most people don't feel on a wedding day) I was joyful, I felt inspired and eager to capture the getting ready pictures. I began to laugh out loud as I saw Kelly's shoes laid out on the bed. (Kelly LOVES shoes, a lot!) She had a beautiful pair of classic Kate Spade cream heels to wear for the wedding ceremony and a second pair of reds for the reception + a million vintage accessories. One I personally was in awe of; sher blue Swarvoskly Crystal ring!

As I photographed the details of her getting ready I watch the rain fall outside the window. In a way it was beautiful. The house was draped in artwork and quite a number of framed photographs I took for them during their engagement session. Next, we headed to the Ladue Raquet Club for Kelly to see Greg for the first...After I organized a moment for them to first meet, I stood there in the room with them.. as two best friends fell in love all over again. It was one of the most powerful moments I've ever witnessed between two people...It's something I wont try to describe right now but I will say that I feel like one of the luckiest people to have solely witnessed that first moment on their wedding day. To be honest, that characterizes their hearts, their personalities and dedication to each other + the people in their lives. Kelly & Greg put thoughtfulness in every single thing they do. Of course they wanted a beautiful wedding with all their friends but they knew that by keeping it small that they would truly create a celebration that every person, even the photographer would LOVE! (A perfect fillet mignon was even served for dinner!) Kelly set a box at each persons place setting that had a note inside for each guest. (Kelly you're so classy!)

....As my eyes fill with tears I feel admiration for Kelly. The time and energy she creates simply look effortless...I know it's not but she makes everything perfect. It's simple, elegant and one of a kind...not picked out of a magazine - hand crafted and created. I can't even begin to describe on paper what a exceptional disposition she possesses. I will say that she makes each and every person feel like they are the most important. She is elegant and confident. Beautiful both on the inside and out. She admires Greg just as much as he admires her...Most of all, I love the way they treat each other when no one is watching! I know that they are going to love every minute as husband and wife. They have what I envision as the perfect love...like a painting. If I can give them any gift in the world it is to present them with these pictures which I hope they see they passion, art, laughter and beauty they have been gifted. To Mr. & Mrs. Hardy, with love and tears of happiness. Thank you for giving me a new insight into love & marriage, the way it should be!

Oh the joy of Mexico! I enjoyed photographing Dan and Becky and their guests at the Hotel Barcelo in the Mayan Riviera. I don't know what part I loved most, the getting ready shots of the girls as the champagne was poured or Dan and his brother sharing the moments before the ceremony over a cold Modelo...or may the ceremony that was on the beach with their 25 guests overlooking the turquoise ocean....I truly loved getting some beautiful shots of the bride and groom around the hotel as we truly had fun posing in front of some great backdrops. Honestly, one thing that was a first for me was eating dinner on the beach with my feet in the sand as the Tequila was passed around as the celebration kicked off....At the end, we even got a little fireworks display!!! Cheers to an old friend, a few found love of his; beautiful Becky and all the amazing people that made the trip to paradise! This is one moment I will never forget!

Justine + Ryan...Engagement Session

Some days everything just comes together!....A full moon rising over the ocean at sunset or the summers night breeze blowing my subjects hair. As the waves roll in behind them...I snap a picture and in that instance think to myself, "what a moment!" Ryan & Justine are two of the best people I know! I met them two weeks ago while they were interviewing photographers/videographers for their wedding. They were just engaged and planning to get married February 2011 in Palm Beach, Florida at the PGA National Golf Course. When we first met we instantly conncected....I grew to love them even more as Ryan talked about his passion for golf and Justine's travels!
Here are a few of my favorite pics! I feel that these images capture the candidness of their fun loving relationship and personality together! A photographer will tell you that pictures are like recipes... it takes certain things to make a great image come together...and on this photo session everything collided which created this wonderful moment in time. Their willingness to go barefoot on the beach and pose on the train tracks was a joy! February won't come soon enough!

The moment I have only dreamed about! Recently, I have received an award that symbolizes my success and passion for practicing my labor of love. After traveling for the past 6 weeks strait, I arrived at my new home and then a pile of mail...Jet lagged and still lost in translation I opened up a large envelope I have been longing for since I expanded my business to south Florida in spring of 2007....I received this plaque pictured below for my award, "Best of Weddings 2010!" from The Knot Magazine.
When I first started my career in 2003 my current boss, photographer Carole Patterson said to me, "If you want to be the best wedding photographer then you need to advertise and associate yourself with the best wedding magazine!"
So I signed up! I then started advertising and submitted my strongest wedding pictures for consideration....I waited to hear if my images would be considered for publication in the magazine. After going to the cliffs of La Jolla, CA to photograph a wedding, I knew that the experiences I had while shooting along with the pictures had to be shared with other people. As I returned home, I heard that 2 of the weddings were going to be published! At age 26 I was on cloud nine! My work, featured in a magazine! Sharing my pictures that told stories of people I barley knew but grew to love...I quickly knew I had the best job in the world. Needless to say, The Knot greatly helped my career and my confidence to shoot "destination weddings". Not to mention, La Jolla's a pretty swanky place not to fall in love with. Two years later....just after opening my studio in St. Louis and traveling to exotic locations, I was suprisingly awarded "Best of Weddings 2007 in St. Louis" by The Knot.
Acquisitive with confidence and a desire to expand my niche for destination weddings; in 2008 I made the move to South Florida. I found the landscape to be not only ideal for weddings, a place where people flocked to to get married and a land that closely located to the Key West, Caribbean, Bahamas & Mexico. After photographing a few weddings here I felt at home. A place that I knew was going to be hard to tap into the photography market but a place I could be more exclusive while strengthening my creativity and world travels. In Novemeber, while working back in St. Louis, I received a call notifying me that I was one of ten photographers in all of South Florida to receive "Best of Weddings!" by The Knot once again.
Needless to say, I feel that I have truly "made it"! This is one honor I longed to have one day, but found myself so busy with work & traveling that I simply misplaced the idea of my goal and got lost in practicing my dream of what I loved...taking pictures! I feel so fortune for all the experieince I have been afforded and look forwad to a successfull 2011 as for I hope to book more weddings abroad and continue feel as passionate about my work and mission. Thank you to all the people who read my blog, who entrust the happiest day of their lives to me and my creativeness. Mexico...Dan + Becky | Riviera Maya Style |

An hour flight & I arrived in paradise... Just as fast as I got another stamp in my passport, my eyes were in love with the sight of Mexico. The culture, history and natural beauty of the Mayan Riviera was one I will never forget. I am headed back to the Hotel Barcelo which located in between Cancun & Tulum, Mexico again in two weeks. It's a lavish beach resort where Pina Coladas are served by the gallon and all the tourists are soaking their sunburns in the pool to escape the heat.
Dan + Becky live in St. Louis and decided to have a destination wedding. They invited their closest family & friends to this resort paradise where they tied the knot on the beach. Not only do they love photography but they value the importance of having professional pictures to keep these moments fleeting. To think, we had dinner served to us on the beach with our feet in the sand next to the ocean....a table set for 27 where there was nothing but toasts, tequila and lots of laughs.
Here are just a few photos I took last Thursday. With my busy wedding season in full swing - I'm happy to have 3 new stamps in my passport this month and lots of weddings to process in the coming weeks. Until the rest of the images are online...her are a few of my personal favorites. I love the colors and the couple! I could not have worked with a more laid back bride & a groom who would go to the end of the earth to ensure everyone got the most out of this experience! Muchas Gracias! This trip will always hold a special place in my heart.

My passion for traveling has taken me to the British Virgin Islands, St. Thomas, the Riviera Maya & now St. Louis. Next week I will be shooting in Miami and then heading to Cancun for another destination wedding. I can't seem to even find time to unpack my suitcase! It's a little crazy....but I am off now to St. Louis to photograph a great wedding. I will be posting some pics from Mexico in a few days so stay tuned!

And the journey continues....I am finishing up my work so I can catch an early flight to Cancun Mexico. There I am photographing Dan + Becky's wedding on Thursday at the beautiful & luxurious hotel Barcelo. I hear it's one of the prettiest & divine resorts around the Mayan Riviera. I am so ready for this trip too!..... I just shot two weddings this past week...One in Boca, a beautiful beach wedding at the inlet with a FABULOUS couple I adore! Along with another wedding on Saturday in Coral Springs & Boca Raton....What a great party they threw at the Rennissance Hotel!
In the midst off all my hard work I have also moved to a new condo in Deerifeld Beach which is quite the place. Somedays I wish I could stand still and enjoy what I work hard for, but I supose that is what June is for!!!
So I'm off to experience Mexico & probably a little Cinco de Mayo for 4 days! I'm really excited & feel fortunate to have this amazing opportunity to capture Dan & Becky on the beach for their wedding at the Barcelo. I know it will be more than I can imagine! Looking forward to sharing some pictures on my blog soon.....!

There is nothing like a full moon coming up over the ocean just as the sunsets behind you! This was one perfect engagement session/family photo shoot in Palm Beach. I not only adored this beautiful couple but the picturesque landscape was truly more than we could have hoped for. Once a month the moon rises just as the sunsets....but on this day, I happened to be photographing on the beach. It was simply perfect! The colors, imagery and company simply made me fall in love with my job all over again.

"Second Line"

The cheer in Susan's voice is enough to light up an entire room! Susan is the kind of person that leaves you the sweetest messages of gratitude, treats you like she's your best friend & creates happiness whereever she goes! Wayman & Susan have know each other for year and years and defiatly threw a great party at their wedding! Susan is a New Orleans native (my third favorite city...where i fell in love). Her New Orleans style & french theme intermingled the southern traditions such as the "Second Line Dance". For those of you that don't know: the "Second Line" is a unique boogie performed to the beat of New Orleans' jazz...you can see a photo of Susan with her umbrella dancing. The DJ also played the song "Black and Gold" which is now famous from the 2009 Superbowl-"Who Dat Nation".

Prior to the wedding they were interviewing photographers both in St. Louis & Florida. When I found out that Wayman + Susan live in St. Louis & were getting married in Boca I knew we had to meet in person. I called her up to chat about their destination wedding... It's ironic I thought....They live in the same two cities I do: St. Louis & Boca Raton...And they live on the same streets (Lindell Boulevard & Ocean Drive.) Needless to say, we hit it off as I shared my pictures with Susan & she described her wedding day ideas at my St. Louis studio! Susan's enthusiasm, sweet disposition and geniuses is so awe-inspiring for me to experience. This was one wedding that could have gone on all night long! I was overjoyed to be a special part of this party! Not only were flowers, colors, details, and architecture of the Boca Resort & the Addison stunning but MOST of all this was a true celebration of love.

Erin + Alex...Orlando, Florida

I can still hear in the back of my mind Erin's laugh echoing through the room as she is getting ready for her wedding! She is the kind of person who is not only genuine but happy in which you can hear it in her voice. As I took their engagement pictures I discovered Erin & Alex's passion for traveling. They met in college and in February tied the knot in a beautiful venue in Orlando.

On that Saturday, the morning weather offered nothing but a torrential downpour...and all I hoped for were clear skies by 3:00. After packing up my equipment and leaving my hotel, I opened the door to find the rain lifting little by little. We arrived at the venue and the skies were all of a sudden clear. It was as if something magical lifted the monsoon type storm from earlier that day and placed clouds and clear skies over us. As I walked to the site of the ceremony, I thought this backdrop will be stunning! As the ceremony started, Erin & Alex smiled and cried... Erin held her dads arm as she walked down the isle together. As he gave her away, Erin & Alex stood there in front of their guests....you could clearly see that they are simply are two of a kind. They compliment each others personalities, love unconditionally, are outgoing and surrounded by TONS of friends that like to party...I think it takes a special recipe for marriage and I'm confident if anyone has it - this couple does! Cheers to Erin & Alex and continue to travel the world and enjoy experiences you create!

Olga + Kevin...Miami Beach

Oh how I love Miami! I met Olga & Kevin at South Beach Park in Miami Beach! The sun was bright as we talked and began talking pictures. As the sun started faded into a golden light we watched it fall behind the skyscrapers that line the city. The park has beautiful elements that are unique for pictures. I most love the fluorescent lights that lined the pathway creating a neon vibe that is contagious. (Being from St. Louis, for me it is what I picture when I think of Miami.) The twilight created a transition of people & mood....as the dog walkers and rollerbladers faded, to couples sitting on the park benches next to the water sat admiring. It is defiantly a place to visit...nature surrounded by restaurants, walkways, playgrounds, the beach & just about any experience your desiring to have in Miami.
I not only enjoyed my time photographing Olga & Kevin but loved hearing about their upcoming wedding in May. They will be getting married in Miami at the Doral Country Club (a golfers paradise) and a scene that will enable us to capture even more fabulous photographs! I think they are such a genuine couple on many levels! Enjoy.

Key West!!!!

As most of you know, I have been busy shooting weddings, designing albums and trying to find time to enjoy the good life. I am proud to say that this weekend I am briefly taking a partial vaca! I am in Key West! Staying in the most beautiful resort in southern Florida, the Westin Cottages in Sunset Key, Key West. It truly is a place of solitude and pure peace. I have never arrived so eager to take pictures of a land so quite and picturesque. It is sensation....much like I picture French Polynesia....with a little Key Lime pie on the side. Truly, a place that those native to Florida should visit, even just for lunch while in the "Keys". I find it to be a place that those who are deciding where to HoneyMoon should truly consider....it's one of a kind!

Until Sunday I am enjoying the sunshine and the peacefullness of the deserted island. I will be sipping frosty drinks and imagining the beautiful photographs that I can capture on Sunday on the dock of the Westin Hotel while overlooking the sunset of Key West. Cheers to La Dolce Vita!

There is nothing better than taking pictures for couples that love the art of photography. I met Cassi & Danny many months ago... They interviewed me for their upcoming wedding in April at the Mizner Country Club in Boca Raton, Florida! Needless to say, we hit it off! I loved Cassi's English accent & the adoring way Danny looked at her as she talked about how she feels pictures are priceless! I love when clients love what I do, not just for the images I capture but for the true fact that you only get one shot at pictures on your wedding day. Photographs are (in our minds) the most important element of your entire day....besided saying, "I do!" Cassi not only wanted a great photographer but a kind person to be a part of her every move on her day. I feel, a wedding photographer must be creative, technical, great with people & able to capture hundreds of fleeting moments.... (all while the photographer is not in the way.) Cassi said, pictures are the only thing that you have when your weddings over! And I fell in love with them...!
I have posted a few of their engagement photographs above. We did an extra long shoot so that they could get a variety of pictures to share. We visited the Boca Resort, the Boca Inlet Park where the intercostal meets the ocean, the train tracks and the place they will tie the knot the Mizner Country Club.

Family Slideshow Movie...Heather & Family 2010

There is nothing like working with a family that admires the art of photography! From the first time I met Heather & her family I knew she was one client in Florida that I wanted to be associated with through the years! As Heather says, "You're stuck with us!!!" Miranda, their youngest was just a baby when I first photographed their family.....We took photos of her on the beach or should I say chased Miranda on the beach in Deerfield. Then, Christmas came! We hit the beach running for more pictures & wanted to capture a few for their 2008 holiday card. Heather & Christian created a snowman as a prop which made all of us laugh out-loud! (What a cute idea!) It was my first Christmas in Florida & one that will forever hold a special place in my heart...I have loved watching Miranda grow up!!!
A few months after Christmas, Heather & Christian announced that they were expecting again! She said - "...Please mark your calendar; not to rush it but I'm due around September!" I have always wanted to photograph new born baby shots & Heather's willingness inspired me. In the meantime we capture her belly shots on the beach at 27 weeks. She was glowing and felt great. The pics of Miranda and her belly are priceless. Weeks later, I received a call that she just gave birth to A BOY!!!! Hence, I headed to the hospital, upon my arrival, it was just Heather & new baby, Liam alone in the hospital room. As I started taking pictures, it truly was one of the most beautiful moments in my life as a photographer. The peace between the baby & mom was something to feel. Heather was glowing, full of happiness & smiles. I felt so lucky to not only capture little Liam on his first day into the world, but the entire family as they visited! It was over joyous! Three weeks after the birth I visited their home to capture their 2009 holiday card! Little Liam was getting BIG & his nursery was perfect! I had Miranda play dress up! She choose a dashing princess outfit! I loved walking into their house because it is decorated with my photographs! It is so beautiful that they love the moments that they have created and I have captured. They are such a genuine family...This movie was a gift from Heather to Christian!

Natalie + Zach...South Florida

From the minute I met Natalie I admired her great sense of style & genuineness. She and Zach married in May at the Pier 66 Hyatt! I already can see this is going to be one great party! Zach's friends will be entertaining the guests with their music durning cocktails outside before they head to the top of the hotel for dinner at the revolving restaurant over looking Fort Lauderdale. Pier 66 is a great venue in itself but having the opportunity to photograph this couple there is simply ideal! Vizcaya...Bridal Portrait in Coral Gables

There are days I wake up an think...I love my job! Most of all I love my clients! I was lucky enough to be afforded both a beautiful bride with an amazing family & a picturesque location to shoot pictures! Melissa & Don got married in December at the beautiful Spanish Monistary in north Miami...it's a sanctuary filled with spirit, lush landscape and lots of history. After the rain cleared Melissa and I talked about shooting her bridal portrait after the holidays. We met this Monday to have a little fun and capture a few pictures after the big wedding at the famous Vizcaya Gardens. I recently read about Viscaya in Martha Stewart Magazine in their last months Valentine's issue. It featured stunning photos along with detailing the history & art of the gardens. I must say the read was quite educational, explaining the lavish interior deign, architecture, leandsacpe & gardens. However, not even a well written article filled with some nice photos could prepare me for the luxury of actually being there in person. I was breathless. It's a place you must experience yourself to truly enjoy the view...It brings you back in time and made my imagination run wild. This was the perfect place for Melissa and I to capture her pictures! Her carefree spirit and sweet mom by our side, made me loose track of time and feel like the luckiest person in the world. It feels good to enjoy a winter in south Florida - taking pleasure in all the beautiful things it offers me. If every client was like the Livingoods, I'd work for free! They truly are heartfelt, genunie people that have such a passion for traveling!

Jamaica + Ryan & Neha...Lost for words!

I'm lost for words....When I first spoke with Ryan & Neha, a couple from New York who got by name from their friend, I was both excited & eager to get on the plane and head for the Caribbean. It was what I have dreamed about since doing my second ever destination wedding in Jamaica in 2006 off the white beach of Negril at the Grand Lido. I felt like I was at a great place in both life and career, ready to push myself and my photography to the next level. As for just a week before this wedding I was notified that I was awarded, "TOP photographers of 2010" by The Knot Magazine!!!!
As I arrived into Montego Bay, the same fresh aroma filled my senses as I was greeted by friendly Jamaicans. It had been 9 months since I was there photographing last, an engagement session for a Chicago couple. This time though, it felt very familiar!!! A feeling I could totally get use to!

Next, I ventured over the the beautiful Moon Dance Cliffs Resort - a new property on the cliffs of Negril! It was a quiet tranquil place that I instantly felt at home and full of inspiration. I met Ryan, by the pool there for the first time. Then I met Neha, the sweetest bride filled with nothing but great energy! I instantly feel in love with their personalities & the location they whimsically choose to say their vows. As I attended the rehearsal dinner that night, I began to see that their 50 guests were going to be such a great part of capturing the BIG day...not to mention the food, drinks and musics Caribbean authenticity really made for a great vibe.
As the wedding day approached I was eager to see how this elegant tropical resort was going to transform into a beautiful wedding setting. As I watched the light move over the rocks just past the wedding gazebo, I knew that the sunset was going to be my shot! To my surprise there was in fact much more than that! (And here again is where I am lost for words....) I guess it's hard for me to write about the wedding day because there were so many genuinely powerful moments. For example, first, when Neha & her dad sat alone in her villa just moments before they walked down the isle....Next, her mothers tears of joy that streamed down her face during the ceremony. Then, the flower petals that exploded as they ran down the isle!!! (that made the cover of my website) or the hugs they received at the cocktail hour and then the group shot of the entire family and guests that traveled thousands of miles to be with them on the happiest day of their life. Last but not least, the sunset!!! Oh how divine it appeared as it dropped into the ocean! It was perfect, truly a view that made time stand still. In the end, the explosion of color from the sunset was a prefect sight to set the mood for the surprise fire dancer the entertained the guests with after dinner. Even I did not know about it! It was pretty spectacular!!! I hope that instead of me writing about each photo below you can simply see in the imagery the mood and power of each photo...As a photographer, my ultimate goal is not to just capture images, but for people who were not there, to see my pictures and feel as if they were.

Website Updates for 2010!

Tiss a new year and time to update my website.... I feel like I've have so many phenomenal experiences and shot tons of beautiful weddings in 2009! All of them are unique in their own & all have some great details that will showcase well on my website. This year I have traveled to the following cities and have loved every minute of it....Although its nice to live at home for a few weeks - I'm already looking forward to the new adventures, destinations and people I get to experience in 2010! Over the next few weeks I will be redesigning all my publicity and galleries on my site - putting my graphic design degree to use! Continue to check back for more updates and new images. Cheers!

Simply Destination...Leah + Harris: Boca Raton, FL

I received a call a few months ago about a couple getting married at the beautiful Boca Raton Resort and Hotel just a minute away from my house here in Florida. After talking about their simple but elegant wedding in November, I knew I wanted to shoot this wedding! The Banks came from Alabama to have a wedding weekend at the resort with 40 of their family & best friends. The Boca club is one of my favorite places to be as for the architecture, colors, style and natural beauty lends itself to endless photographs...not to mention that they have one of the best golf courses in the U.S. I could take pictures all day there!
Here are a few pictures from the wedding as for I put together a quick slideshow for the Banks family for their wedding reception back home this weekend. I hope that their guests & friends who were not present in Florida relive the feeling of the wedding while looking at the images we captured...I know Leah & Harris will have a few great stories to share not only from their honeymoon in British Virgin Islands but the amazing yacht we took pictures on just after the ceremony. Oh the beauty of the islands! There was not a care in the world as we felt the tropical winds soothe our souls this Thanksgiving break in Negril. Everything was perfect on our end of the island, just like the locals religiously say, "no problem!" I flew to the cliffs of Negril to celebrate and capture Ryan & Neha's wedding. Oh what a celebration it was! There are the Moon Dance Cliffs Hotel stayed 40 of their family members and friends. I was overjoyed in getting to know all these unique, adventurous and genuine friends of the bride & groom as for each of them hold a special place in Ryan & Nehas heart. The calm, relaxed and lush atmosphere was the perfect environment to not only get married but to have one great party! Here are a few photos from the wedding...they are fresh off my camera. I will post more in weeks to come...after the holiday rush! Enjoy and cheers to the great family, friends and the most beautiful couple! With much love... I can't wait to go back!

Here I go again...Since April of this year I have not been home for more than 7 consecutive days....It's both beautiful and tiring. I feel oh so lucky to have these wonderful experiences!!!! Boston, D.C. Mississippi, Kansas, St. Thomas, Austin, Seattle, etc....This Thanksgiving I am happily heading to the beautiful Caribbean sea, landing on Wednesday in Montego Bay. First, I'm meeting Sammy, the local driver who, in February took me on a photo safari around the bay...I met him while staying at the new Riu hotel. He was pretty laid back and once I realize I wasn't safe in the country alone I hired him to take me around for the day in search of the perfect engagement picture location for Melissa & Gabe (view their pictures here). They flew me down to Jamaica to capture their engagement photographs where I also took some great landscape shots! I visited one of many coffee bean plantations, fishing harbors & road side stands. That day, I captured my favorite photo of the boy seen below with his pet goat (check them out below). Now, I'm headed to the west side of the island to Negril! I'll be photographing at the Moondance Cliffs with Ryan & Neha + 30 of their family and friends. They live in New York and found me through thier friends, Lauren & Ryan who I photographed in St. Louis.

I choose to stay at the beautiful Rock House Hotel just down the road - a close shot to Ricks Cafe....One of my favorite places to watch the sunset. Negril holds a special place in my heart as for in 2007 it was my FIRST destination wedding spot with Holly & Adam at the Grand Lido...This experience presented itself just after opening my own studio in St. Louis at age 24. A few months prior, I journeyed to La Jolla, CA in 2006 for a wedding shoot - it was on that beach that I knew I wanted be a "destination wedding photographer" and some day I have a little tiny summer house there on the cliffs of the ocean.

I'm eager to go back to Jamaica because it symbolizes the beginning of my career & the successes I have had along the way. I was notified last week that I was awarded by The Knot Magazine as, TOP PHOTOGRAPHERS in South Florida for 2010. I was one of 10 awarded in Florida! I feel my sleepless nights, hard work, constant travel, building relationships with my clients and the creative art my new Canon 5D Mark II's has afforded me simply brought me to this state of utter BLISS!!! It's like a gold metal! This is it!!!! I could not have done it without the love and support of my family and friends through my move to Florida last year. It's pretty hard to leave your business & family but I had to follow my heart & the feeling that I could make this ALL worth it...(But let's get real, I didn't think that I could do it in 18 months!) I'm on cloud 9!

I flash back to my past visit to Negril over two years ago and see just how far I have come. I have such a different life now due to the world experiences I have had since, but the same passion still exists. I feel like the luckiest person in the world - not only to be retuning to paradise but to still be in LOVE with my "job" and the creativeness that fills my soul.

In the end, I'm looking forward to wrapping up this season of weddings and taking 2 months off of "work" come December 6th....Giving me more time to set my next set of goals and book some more amazing weddings in 2010! Cheers to all the couples that will get engaged over this Holiday (like Lindsay & Justin in Deerfield Beach) and all the excitement that comes with planning the Happiest Day of YOUR Life! Carpe Diem.

Katie + Joe...Columbia

I met Katie and Joe in St. Louis a few months ago. We reminisced about our college town in Columbia Missouri...a liberal college town in the middle of Missouri filled with great urban art, coffee shops, live music and of course Tiger football madness! I remember seeing Mizzou fans carry the goal post down main street after they beat their lifelong rival Nebraska! It's a place of it's own.
Katie and Joe met at Mizzou & are getting married in July 2010 at the beautiful Norwood Country Club in St. Louis. I met them a few weeks ago in Columbia when the beautiful fall leaves were ever so pretty. We captured some great shots that they will be using for their "save the date" cards. I think their pictures turned out beautifully...of course that's predictable when your subject matter is cute as can be! it was the perfect setting! They couldn't have been more wonderful to work with and I know that their wedding will be a great celebration! Cheers!
